What is Compostable Plastic?
PDS offers biodegradable, compostable bin liners and straws made from poly lactic acid (PLA) to consumers, supporting them with their drive to make our environment a healthier one. These products are environmentally healthy alternatives to petroleum based plastic bin liners and straws which persist in the environment and can take up to 200 years or more to degrade. PLA products have a shelf of 12 months from date of manufacture, and are compostable in 9-12 weeks in commercial composting systems (recommended), or 6-12 months in home composting systems or 12-24 months in landfill (pending suitable composting conditions).
